Southend United is pleased to now be in a position to officially confirm our pre-season tour to Madrid, Spain later this month.
The Blues first team squad will spend four days in the Spanish city as they continue their pre-season preparations.
And as part of the tour Paul Sturrock's side will take part in two prestigious pre-season friendlies.
United will visit Madrid between Friday, 27 and Monday, 30 July and will play two matches against Real Madrid C on Saturday 28th July (10am) at their Valdebebas based training facilities whilst the second match will be against Rayo Vallecano B on Sunday 29th July (7pm) at their training complex.
Real Madrid C is the third team of the world famous side who play in the fourth tier of Spain's football pyramid. The side is part of the development system at the Bernabeu Stadium and features mainly second year professionals.
Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano B - whose senior side play in La Liga - play in the third tier of Spanish football.
The Southend squad will be based at the Spanish Soccer Federation Complex for the duration of the trip.
Speaking about the trip manager Paul Sturrock said: "Last season I really felt that the tour played a big part in bringing us together and helped our good start.
"The trip to Spain will be a way to integrate all the new players into the set-up as well as giving us two games against world class players.
"These teams have seen players come through them that have gone on to win World Cups and Euro Championships so it shows the sort of breading ground they are."
