Mohsni set for Premier League trial

16 July 2012

Southend United manager Paul Sturrock has confirmed that Bilel Mohsni will trial at a Premier League side this weekend.

The Blues defender has not returned for pre-season training at Roots Hall after being granted an extension.

And after confirming his desire to play at a higher level the Frenchman is now reluctant to come back to Southend.

"Bilel requested an extension to his holiday to attend a family wedding which we were prepared to grant," confirmed Sturrock.

"Although we were not happy about him returning late for pre-season with the rest of the players.

"Bilel believes he can play at a higher level and has today advised that he is very reluctant to return to Southend at all and he has ambitions to play at least in the Championship.

"As a consequence his agent has arranged for him to train with a Premiership club and he will be returning to the UK tomorrow.

"It is likely that this will result in playing in a pre-season this weekend so the side can monitor his progress."

Mohsni's future at Southend United beyond the next few days remains uncertain but Sturrock is keen shield his squad from any negativity.

"All the players are very focused and this is an important season," he added. "The management want to finish off the job we so nearly achieved last year and we can only do that is everyone is giving 100 per cent for Southend United."
