First team travel to Wakering

18 July 2012

Southend United will send a full first team squad to Great Wakering Rovers tonight in their latest pre-season friendly.

The Blues visit the Essex Senior League sides Burroughs Park home at 7.30pm this evening.

And manager Paul Sturrock is likely to stick with his policy of giving all members of his team 45 minutes of action.

Defender Mark Phillips has been given the all clear to feature despite a clash of heads with West Ham's Dan Potts on Saturday.

It resulted in the centre-back being substituted whilst Potts left the Roots Hall pitch on a stretcher.

But the former Millwall defender confirmed today that he would be fine to resume playing tonight.

"I trained yesterday and will definitely be available for the game against Wakering this evening," said Phillips.

"I had a really bad headache for quite some time after the game and I was feeling a bit dazed and dizzy as well.

"However, I'm feeling fine again now and I'm looking forward to the game."

The only trialist included with the travelling party will be former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Yoann Folly who has played in the Blues previous two friendly matches.

Tickets for tonight's match are £5 for everyone, adults and under 16's with under 11's free.
