Midfielder Kane Ferdinand doesn’t believe he will come up against a side in League Two this season as confident on the ball as Real Madrid’s C team were today.
Blues put in a valiant performance against the Spaniards at their training complex, eventually losing 3-1.
But Ferdinand, who once again played the full 90 minutes in scorching temperatures, said Southend were unlikely to meet a similar side this season.
“It was very hot out there but it was a good run out against a very technical side,” Kane told the official website.
“Some sides try to play like Real Madrid in League Two but none of them are as good as these guys were.
“I’ve played against a few foreign sides before when I toured with the Academy when I was younger.
“We are all brought up to play the same way but some are better than others at it.
“That is the second 90 minutes I have played and although it is very tiring it is also good as we build towards the first game of the season.”
Ferdinand returns to action on Sunday evening when Southend United play their second match of the Madrid tour against Rayo Vallecano B.
