Defender Ryan Cresswell admitted Saturday’s workout against Braintree Town was just what his Southend side needed.Blues were given a difficult test by the Blue Square Premier side at Cressing Road.
A brace from trialist Stephen Brogan was enough to seal the 2-0 win for Southend and Cresswell admitted it was good preparation for the season ahead.
“It was what the lads needed,” Ryan told the official website. “This match was a bit more of a test and it will be good preparation for the season.
“Everyone is showing good fitness levels already and the gaffer is putting on some hard sessions that are helping us get fitter everyday.
“Results at the moment don’t really matter as such but it was pleasing to keep a clean sheet.
“We’re getting to know each other now as a unit now and each others style of play which will be important.”
