Southend United can confirm that we have today agreed terms with Rotherham United defender Ryan Cresswell, subject to a medical. The Blues have agreed a two-year deal with the centre-back to move to Roots Hall on a free transfer from the Millers.
Cresswell will undergo a medical at the end of the week before completing the deal.
Commenting on the deal manager Paul Sturrock said: "Ryan is a really exciting one for us.
"He's big and strong in the air from set-pieces and has a good goal record for a defender.
"We met with him over a week ago and I liked his attitude and personality also.
"He will provide good competition at the back with Mark Phillips and Chris Barker."
The 24-year-old started his career with Sheffield United and spent time on loan with Halifax, Morecambe and Macclesfield before joining Bury in July 2008.
The defender had two seasons with the Shakers before joining Rotherham in the summer of 2010.
He has since made 43 appearances for the Millers and has scored 10 goals.
Cresswell will join Kevan Hurst, Gavin Tomlin and Anthony Straker as new arrivals this summer.
