Striker happy with his and Gavin Tomlin's tally so far
Britt Assombalonga is hopeful he and Gavin Tomlin can increase their tally of 22 goals between them over a busy Christmas schedule.
Britt, who scored his last goal came against Rochdale at home, has got 12 goals so far this campaign, while Gavin, who score both times against Bury in the FA Cup, has scored 10.
But Britt insists he’s happy his strike partner is still finding the back of the net, even though he hasn’t been of late.
“For some reason it just seems that when one of us is scoring the other one isn’t,” Britt said.
“But as long as we’re winning I don’t mind that, and I’m delighted for Gavin to be scoring goals, he’s been a big help for me throughout my time here.
“We seem to be linking up well and working off each other even though we’re quite similar.
“Of course, all strikers want to be scoring goals, but 22 goals between us so far is pretty good I think.”
Britt says that working with Gavin in training, and speaking with former-striker and now manager Paul Sturrock has been a huge help for him since coming in on loan.
“It’s great in training every day and Gavin has given me lots of help both off the pitch and on it,” Britt said.
“It’s not just Gav though, there’s some really good strikers here who have all helped me, including the Gaffer.
“He scored goals throughout his career and that’s what I want to be doing. I think that’s a big reason for me improving so much since I joined.”
Britt’s reaction to extending his loan deal with Southend United will be on Blues Player and the official site soon.
