Blues skipper wants to be in the hat for the FA Cup third round
Chris Barker says that if Blues play like they did in the opening 45 minutes against Brentford last Tuesday, they have a very good chance of knocking League 1 Bury out of the FA Cup.
Blues’ skipper admits there was slight disappointment after going so close to winning it at Gigg Lane, but he’s confident they can finish the job here at Roots Hall tomorrow evening.
“When Brentford game here last week in the JPT we played very well in the first half,” he said.
“If we can do that again tomorrow night against Bury then we’ve got a good chance of progressing to the next round.
“Let’s not forget though that while Bury might be struggling, they are in the top few for their last few results.
“We knew the game would be tough but we should have won it at the end, and when you hit the bar with 30 seconds to go there is disappointment.
“But saying that they had a few chances and a few scrambles so now we’re at home we’ll be hoping to progress.”
Last season at this stage, the prospect of Liverpool waited in the next round, but Blues were beaten by Oldham Athletic.
This time around, Blues will face Brentford in the third round, but Barker says that at the moment the only focus is on beating Bury.
“We had that carrot last year in Liverpool where we didn’t get through,” he added.
“I think that effected our league performances and possibly even stopped us getting promoted.
“We have got a League 1 team to beat and if we do beat them then there’s another team from that division, who are right at the top, in the next round.
“We’ve got to beat Bury and we can go from there, we will take everything from the previous game into this one and hopefully we can reach that third round.”
