Southend United have made two signings ahead of Saturday’s match with Accrington Stanley.
The Blues have signed Watford striker Britt Assombalonga on a one month loan and trialist midfielder John Spicer on a one-year deal.
19-year-old Assombalonga has moved from the Hornets Vicarage Road home on a four-week loan spell.
The DR Congo born forward, who can also play on the wing, has made four first team appearances for Watford and spent the tail end of last season on loan at Blue Square Premier side Braintree Town scoring five goals in five starts.
That followed a loan spell with Wealdstone where 11 appearances saw the youngster grab six goals.
Centre midfielder Spicer has spent the past four weeks on trial with the Blues in a bid to win a contract.
The ex-Notts County, Burnley and Bournemouth player played in friendlies with Great Wakering Rovers, Braintree Town, Milllwall and a Tottenham Hotspur XI.
Spicer, 28, has made 222 career appearances, scoring 18 goals.
Both players are eligible for Saturday’s npower League Two opener with Accrington Stanley at Roots Hall, 3:00pm kick-off.
