Former Southend United midfielder Jean-Paul Kalala is back training at Boots and Laces today.
Kalala, 30, was released at the end of last season after one year at Roots Hall.
He suffered a knee injury in Blues 1-0 defeat at Morecambe in February and missed the remainder of the campaign.
But now the Congolese midfielder is back training with his former teammates as Southend assess his fitness.
“Kalala is back for the physio to have a look at him and asses his fitness,” Sturrock told the official website.
“He had a knee injury last season and he still has some work to do but who knows what will happen.
“His knee is an aspect as it is not totally back to normal yet.
“But he played in 30 games last season, which were 15 wins, 5 draws and 10 defeats.
“That shows the influence he had on the team but we will have to wait and see if anything will happen.”
