Ryan Cresswell will face late fitness tests to determine if he is fit enough to face Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Southend United kick-off their npower League Two season tomorrow when they host Accrington Stanley at Roots Hall (3:00pm).
And Cresswell (groin) will be checked late on before boss Paul Sturrock selects his side.
Striker Gavin Tomlin however has declared himself fit to play in a timely boost for the Blues.
Tomlin, a summer signing, has missed United’s last four matches with an ankle problem and an infection in his groin.
However, after training on Thursday the ex-Gillingham player is hoping to be involved against Stanley.
“I trained yesterday and will train again today so I’m definitely available for the Accrington game and will hopefully be selected by the manager,” said Tomlin.
“I got an ankle injury which became infected and caused swelling in my groin but I took some pills which settled everything down and I’m reall looking forward to getting back out there.”
Meanwhile, Neil Harris (calf) is also a doubt for the Blues after limping off in Tuesday’s 4-0 defeat at Peterborough United.
Tickets for Saturday’s match, which kicks-off at 3pm, are still available from the Blues Box Office by calling 08444 77 00 77 or visiting Roots Hall in person.
