Southend United have signed former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith this morning on a two-year deal.
Smith, 32, has agreed a permanent move to Roots Hall on a free transfer after being released by the Championship side at the end of last season.
The ex-Southampton and Brentford stopper has made 279 career appearances and moved for a combined total of £1million in his career.
Unfortunately, the deadline for new registrations for today’s match with Accrington Stanley has passed meaning Smith will be unavailable.
However, Smith will be available for Tuesday’s npower League Two trip to Oxford United.
Smith has been handed the number one shirt.
