Goalkeeper Cameron Belford has made a loan switch back to Roots Hall this afternoon.
The Bury stopper has returned to Southend United on a one-month loan deal just hours before the start of the new season.
Belford, 23, spent three and a half months on loan at the Blues at the end of last season.
He made 15 appearances during that time and kept nine cleansheets as United ended the season in the play-offs, missing out on automatic promotion by a point.
The former Coventry City trainee was involved in both of Blues semi finals against Crewe Alexandra as Paul Sturrock’s side failed to win promotion.
However, Sturrock opted against extending the deal on a permanent basis but has now decided to loan the custodian whilst he continues to explore options for the number one jersey.
The loan deal was completed in time for tonight’s Capital One Cup match with Peterborough United at London Road.
19-year-old Daniel Bentley had been expected to make his full debut this evening.
