Brown: “I’m looking for a reaction"

Just now

Blues boss Phil Brown has called for a reaction from his side at MK Dons on Tuesday night.

A 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth at the weekend halted consecutive league wins of the same scoreline in Blues’ favour, against Bury and Walsall, prior to the weekend trip to Fratton Park.

And in the midst of an ‘important’ three games, Brown is hoping for a better all-round performance at Stadium MK.

“I was disappointed with our reaction after Portsmouth scored. I thought we had a lot more fight in us than we showed on Saturday, certainly with the 1500 travelling fans. I was disappointed for them more than anybody.

“It made for a battling performance but we didn’t get anything from the game and that’s the most disappointing thing.

“I’m looking for a reaction and I’m looking for a response. I said after the game I would be making changes, and I will. I’ll continue to give players support at the football club but that needs to be rewarded with performances and we’re not at this moment in time playing well enough to see off teams such as Portsmouth."

Brown added: “It’s a big game against MK Dons. They’ve had a couple of great results, having hit a sticky patch themselves.

“That seems to be synonymous of the division. I think there are seven teams above us that are separated by three points, and that shows how tight the division is, but we need to start winning games of football. None more so than Tuesday night against MK Dons.”

MK Dons drew 2-2 with Charlton Athletic at the weekend thanks to a Kieran Agard double, his first goals of the season.

“They’re a decent side and they’re a footballing team,” Brown said. “They’ve changed since the Karl Robinson days and they’ve now gone a little bit more physical as opposed to technical, however they still try and play out from the back.

“They have a promising front four, although Kieran Agard came off the bench to score his two goals on Saturday from the right wing, which is not really the position that he likes.

“Chuks Aneke plays as a number 10, probably the biggest number 10 in the division, and on the left wing Ariyibi has a lot of pace, so they’ve got a threat, but the deficiencies at the back we need to exploit with our passing and with our confidence in front of goal.”
