Will Atkinson signed for Blues in July 2013 on a two-year deal following his release by Bradford City.
Atkinson made 57 appearances for The Bantams during the 2012/13 season, featuring against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Swansea in their memorable run to the Capital One Cup final.
The midfielder began his career at Hull City and worked alongside Blues boss Phil Brown.
Atkinson had loan spells at Port Vale, Mansfield, Rochdale, Rotherham and Plymouth before joining Bradford.
He has won three promotions from League 2 in his career; with Rochdale in 2009-10, with Bradford City in 2012-13 and, of course, with Southend in 2014-15.
In the summer of 2015, Will signed a new deal to keep him with the Blues until 2017.
