Former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith signed a two-year deal at Southend United on the morning of the 2012/13 season.

He spent six years at the City Ground, after joining for £500,000 from Southampton in the summer of 2006, making 142 appearances.

The stopper even managed to score one goal during that time in a 3-2 defeat at home to Leicester City in 2007.

He made his debut for Southend against AFC Wimbledon in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and went on to make 45 appearances last season.
