An experienced striker with League One pedigree, David Mooney joined Southend United in July 2015 on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old spent the last four years at Leyton Orient, scoring over 50 times for the O’s during this time.

The Irishman began his career in his homeland with the likes of Shamrock Rovers, Longford Town and Cork City before moving to England by signing for Reading in 2008.

During three years with the Royals, Mooney struggled to break into the side and spent time away from the Berkshire outfit, enjoying loan spells with Stockport County, Norwich City, Charlton Athletic and Colchester United before joining Orient in 2011.

Mooney scored eight goals in his debut season at Roots Hall - second in the club’s goalscorer standings.
