U18'S WINNING RUN CONTINUES
Southend United's under 18's unbeaten start to the new season continued on Saturday, this time in the Youth Alliance Cup.
Blues youngsters are so far unbeaten in four matches and Ricky Duncan's team increased that stretch with a solid 2-1 victory over Rushden and Diamonds.
United were put in front thanks to goals from Ronnie Jones and Justin Hazell before a 92nd minutes penalty from the Diamonds blotted the Blues copybook.
Meanwhile, two other Southend youngsters were making a name for themselves in the FA Cup qualifying rounds on Saturday.
First year pro Rhys Henry and second year scholar Tashan Adeyinka have both linked up with Ryman Premier outfit Harlow Town.
Henry, who spent some time on loan with the Hawks last term, made an instant impact as he scored twice during Harlow's 5-1 win against Aveley.
The youngster found the back of the net on 59th minute before adding a second, and Harlow's fourth, ten minutes from time.
That just left Adeyinka to score in the last minute as he marked his debut with a goal.
