Johnny Herd signed a two-year professional contract with Southend United this summer.
The promising left-back has impressed in both the Blues' youth and reserve teams last season and has now made the step-up.
The 18-year-old was part of the under-18 squad who created club history last season by reaching the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup for the first time.
Herd will now be looking to continue the impressive strides he is making at Southend with the first team over the course of the season.
