Richie Foran signed for a £200,000 fee from Motherwell on the final day of the January 2007 transfer window.
The 28-year-old Irishman had scored 14 goals north of the border for the Scottish club that season to attract Southend's interest.
Foran, able to play on either flank or up front, had previously experienced life in England with a near three-year spell with Carlisle in 2001.
Foran spent time on loan at Darlington last year before a knee injury ruled him out for the season. Foran is now currently on the transfer list.
