FRIDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Fri 23 Apr 2010

A familiar face could hammer the final nail in Southend United's relegation coffin at Oldham Athletic tomorrow. For popular ex Blues goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan is currently on loan at the Latics. And if his current side take at least a point at Boundary Park then Southend will definitely be heading back to League Two. "It's ironic how it's worked out but it's a real shame to see Southend struggling and it saddens me because I had a great time there," said the keeper who made 351 appearances during two seperate spells at Roots Hall.

Southend United manager Steve Tilson insists he has not come close to quitting the club this season. Tilson, who takes his struggling team to Oldham Athletic tomorrow, has been faced with a series of tough situations this term both on and off the pitch. But he never felt like leaving Roots Hall. "I would never walk away from here, I'm just not that type of person," said Tilson, whose side will be relegated if they do not triumph at Boundary Park this weekend.
