Southend United will this morning report back for their first day of pre-season training. The Blues' players will gather at their Boots and Laces base after a two month break. And they can expect to be working with the footballs much earlier this term. "The players all had their own fitness programme to follow during the summer and I'm sure they have followed them and will be in good shape," said manager Steve Tilson.

Goalkeeper Ian Joyce will report for training after agreeing to sign a new one year contract to stay with the Blues. "Joycey will be with us and will be signing up again," said Tilson. "He improved last season and did well when he was called upon so it's good news he's agreed to stay."
