Dean Austin has quit Southend United to become the assistant manager at Watford. The 38-year-old had been chief scout and reserve team manager at the Shrimpers, who visit Cheltenham Town tonight. But he has now opted to work alongside the Hornets new boss Brendan Rodgers and revealed he could not turn down the chance of working with the Championship club. "The opportunity was just too good to turn down," said Austin.

Richie Foran has extended his loan spell at Darlington for another month. The Irishman's loan spell with the League Two club was due to expire at the end of November. But he will now stay with the Quakers until the start of January. Foran,28, has scored two goals in six games so far for Darlington.

Goalkeeper Adam Federici has finished his loan spell with Southend United and has returned to Reading. The Australian made 10 appearances during two months with the Shrimpers but has now gone back to the Royals. And he will be replaced between the sticks by Steve Mildenhall for tomorrow's match at Cheltenham Town. "Adam did fantastically well for us but Steve will come back in now," confirmed Blues boss Steve Tilson.
