| Steven Hammell is back for Southend | |
Steven Hammell returns to the starting XI for today's trip to
Sunderland.
Adam Barrett has suffered a reoccurrence of his abdominal injury and hasn't made the trip, which means a quick return for Hammell.
The left-back had been on the sidelines himself with a thigh injury that kept him out of the previous win against QPR.
The last meeting between the two sides this season saw Southend win 3-1 at Roots Hall. Since that day though, and following the appointment of Roy Keane as manager, Sunderland's fortunes have enjoyed a major upturn.
They Black Cats are the form team having won five of their last six matches in the league and only goal difference is denying them a place in the top six.
Southend themselves are now six games unbeaten on the road in the Championship and a win at the Stadium of Light could be enough to move the Club out of the bottom three.
