| Captain Kevin Maher (centre) after his second goal last night | |
Captain Kevin Maher put his goal scoring exploits last night down to a change of footwear.
The Southend skipper fired twice for United as they ran riot against Queens Park Rangers at Roots Hall on Friday evening.
And Maher, who bagged his third and fourth goals of the season, put his success down to a switch of boots at half-time.
"I don't know what is going on," Maher told Blues TV. "I have scored a couple recently so it was nice to add a couple more.
"I changed my boots at half-time and put my white ones on, so that might have made the difference.
"But it was nice to get a couple of goals and add onto the win."

Southend have now lost just once in their last eight league outings as they chase Championship safety.
Blues latest 5-0 win has put Steve Tilson's side within two points of a move out of the bottom three and Maher believes sides will now start to be weary of the Roots Hall outfit.
"We knew beforehand that it was a massive game for us, it was a six pointer, so to win it in the way we did was a huge bonus," he said.
"Recently we have been playing really well and it was probably a culmination of all of that.
"We need to keep it going now though because we have got ourselves right back in it and it will be a scrap until the end of the season.
"I think we have sent out a signal over the last five or six weeks to other sides. But we have got to keep it going because if we sit back and think we have done the hard work then we will be in trouble.
"The hard work starts now, we will need to put more work in because teams will play us knowing we will give them a tough game and we have to be ready for that."
