BLUES LEARN ABOUT BEING A TEAM

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

Southend United's players learnt all about being part of a team at Boots and Laces today.

As part of the build-up to Camouflage Day against Torquay United on Saturday the whole Southend squad met local hero Sergeant Robert 'Billy' Moore.

Moore, from Westcliff, is part of the First Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross, Britain's third highest military honour, for his heroics in Afghanistan.

He spoke about his experiences whilst serving in 2007 with Paul Sturrock's first team squad.

Southend captain Craig Easton said afterwards: "Whilst what we do each day pales in comparison to the work the Armed Forces are performing around the world you can relate to that team mentality.

"Billy spoke about his experiences in Afghanistan and the injuries he sustained in combat.

"He explained how he had the backs of his pals and they had his back also. It was a real inspiration as to leadership and teamwork and I am in complete admiration of him."

Sergeant Moore will be at Roots Hall on Saturday for Camouflage Day and is expected to take the match ball onto the pitch before kick-off.

Supporters are being asked to come to the game tomorrow dressed in camouflage to show their support for the Armed Forces.

Families can take advantage of a special ticket discount for the match. Two adults and two children can attend for just £20. Call the Blues Box Office on 08444 77 00 77 for more details.
