NO DEAL FOR MCLEOD OR HAMMOND

Posted on: Sun 22 Aug 2010

Southend United boss Paul Sturrock has confirmed that he won't be taking his interest in strikers Izale McLeod and Elvis Hammond any further.

McLeod and Hammond were on trial last week and featured in Wednesday's reserve team draw at Oxford.

But United chief Sturrock admitted the duo were not what he was looking for.

"They've both left now," confirmed Sturrock after Saturday's first team defeat against Port Vale.

"Neither were at the required standard we are looking for so I won't be pursuing that.

"I'd still like one more forward and although we are on the limit of the budget I think the chairman would support me in making that happen.

"Too many times before have I panic signed but this time I won't be rushed as I want to ensure I get the right man for the job."
