SOARES POINT TO PROVE

Posted on: Fri 13 Aug 2010

Former Aldershot Town wideman Louie Soares heads back tomorrow hungry for all three points.

Soares spent four seasons with Shots before joining Blues during the summer.

And he is relishing an early return to the Recreation Ground.

"I had a good time at Aldershot and I'm glad to be going back so early on in the season," said Soares who made 168 appearances for Kevin Dillon's team.

"My best season was my last one there but I do feel as if I have a bit of a point to prove this weekend if I'm being honest."

Soares was offered a new deal to stay with Aldershot but the 25-year-old turned it down to sign for Southend.

"I didn't want to stay and coming here was the right move for me," said Soares.

"I don't know what kind of reaction I will get from the crowd and I guess I might get a bit of stick but we will just have to wait and see what happens.

"It should be a good game though because both sides like to pass the ball and I'm looking forward to playing against my friends there."

Soares has not been in contact with his former team-mates ahead of the game and remains fully focused on producing a good performance to help Southend secure their first league win of the season.

Blues drew 1-1 with Stockport County on the opening day of the campaign before seeing off Bristol City 3-2 in the first round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

And Soares believes the unexpected result against the Robins has given Paul Sturrock's side a huge boost.

"It was a very exciting game and to win like we did was great for our confidence," said Soare, who has started both matches for Blues so far this season.

"I think it also showed that we are starting to gel together and we want to show that again tomorrow by getting a good result."

Soares knows that will not be easy though and is fully aware of the dangers Aldershot possess, including their highly rated striker Marvin Morgan.

"Everyone loves him there and he's a good player," said Soares.

"He's very positive and he's someone we will have to try and keep quiet. Aldershot are an attacking team and it will be a hard game but we want to go there and get the job done."
