Winger Louie Soares believes Southend United are the right club to further his career at.

The 25-year-old winger, who has impressed for Blues during pre-season, turned down an offer of a new contract at Aldershot to sign a one year pre-contract agreement at Roots Hall.

And he is confident of tasting success with Paul Sturrock's side.

"Aldershot did offer me a contract to stay but it wasn't right," Soares told Blues Player last week.

"I needed a change and Southend is the right club for me so I'm delighted to have signed."

Soares, who made 168 appearances during four years with Aldershot has featured in all three of Blues pre-season matches.

He has already figured in the games against Dartford, Derby County and Salisbury City and is keen to keep on playing well.

"I have been pleased with how things have gone but I need to keep on going," said Soares.

"It's all about the team and working hard and that is something I will always do but I think a lot of things are possible for us this year.

"We need to bind together but I don't think that will be problem and I think we could well."

Soares is also confident of doing well individually.

He has threatened on both flanks in his previous outings and is not afraid to swap wings.

"I do usually play on the right hand side but I can play on the left as well if needed," said Soares, whose brother Tom plays for Premier League side Stoke City.

"It's not a problem if I have to swap and I'm very excited about the season getting underway."
