CORR KEEN TO IMPROVE DISCIPLINE

Posted on: Wed 14 Jul 2010

Southend United's new striker Barry Corr is keen to stop seeing red with the Blues this season.

The Irishman, who was sent off three times while playing for Exeter City last term, will sign a two-year deal at Roots Hall once the club come out of their transfer embargo.

And he is determined to improve his poor disciplinary record.

"Some things happened last season which I'm not particularly proud of and I don't want them to happen again with Southend," said the 25-year-old.

"You obviously miss games after being sent off, which isn't nice, and the feeling after it happens is horrendous.

"I don't want it to happen again and I don't want to let down my new team-mates."

One of Corr's three red cards came against Southend last season.

But he is now very happy to have joined the club.

"As soon as I got the call from Paul Sturrock, my mind was made up," said the Irishman.

"I've worked with the manager before so I know what to expect from him and he knows what to expect from me.

"He is someone who I feel brings the best out in me and is also very honest.

"I have a strong loyalty towards him, so I'm delighted to be here."

Corr has previously worked with Sturrock at both Swindon Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

And he is certain the Scotsman can now bring success to Southend.

"Obviously the manager needs to bring in some more players, but there is plenty of talent already here and I feel a big club like Southend should be pushing to win the league," said Corr.

"The manager is a very honest man so he will be good for all the lads and I'm sure we can do well."
