Southend United have been drawn against Bristol City in the first round of the Carling Cup.
The Blues were one of the unseeded teams in the south section of the competition and have now been paired against Championship opposition.
Bristol City finished 10th in the Championship last season and recently appointed Steve Coppell as their new manager.
Last year, Southend reached the second round of the Carling Cup, after winning away at Cheltenham Town in the opening round before being knocked out at then-Premier League outfit Hull City, with Franck Moussa scoring a consolation strike in a 3-1 defeat.
The tie will be played during the week commencing 9th August 2010.
