The Club confirmed that some of its staff have not as yet received their wages in full for May 2010.
This was as a result of funding not reaching the Club in advance of the payroll being paid prior to the Bank Holiday weekend. The Club confirmed that all staff will be paid in full.
Southend United remain under an FL embargo but this in no way affects the Club's plans to recruit for the forthcoming season. The Club can continue to sign players for the coming season and plans are already under way to strengthen the squad prior to the embargo being lifted.
Finally, and as a direct result of relegation, the Club has been reviewing its staffing levels with the possibility of some [potentially 10%] likely to be redundant. The introduction of new technologies and new working practices will ensure that customer service levels are not compromised if the consultation results in redundancies at the Club.
The Club's Chairman has invested significant sums (in excess of £3m) in recent months to meet the Club's budget deficit, together with historic costs, and we now have a clear mandate to operate within the adopted budget but which will not diminish in any way the Club's ambition to swiftly move up the Leagues.
Ian Riddoch, Commercial Director, added: "We are not quite out of the woods yet but these measures, together with the further investment being made in the Club coupled with the new Stadium plans, ensure that Southend United has a great future to look forward to."
