SCANNELL DEAL CLOSE

Posted on: Fri 28 May 2010

Winger Damian Scannell is close to committing his future to Southend United according to boss Steve Tilson.

The 25-year-old winger produced a series of fine displays for Blues last season before breaking his foot against Walsall in March.

But he now looks set to still be with the club next season.

"I think everything is close to be sorted out with Damo now which is good news for us," said manager Steve Tilson.

"It's a two year deal we've offered him and it will be great if he signs it because he was playing really well last season before picking up his injury.

"It was the best form he had shown since signing and I think he realises that if he stays with us then he will have the opportunity to play a lot more games."

Scannell joined Blues from non league Eastleigh in January 2008 and has gone on to make 58 appearances for the club, scoring two goals.

The winger, who has also appeared as a striker, suffered a nightmare start to last season as he was hit by a number of injuries and swine flu before recovering to become a permanent figure in the side.
