BLUES RELEASE SANKOFA

Posted on: Fri 14 May 2010

Southend United boss Steve Tilson has confirmed that defender Osei Sankofa has been released today.

The versatile defender had spent the last two seasons with Blues, making 44 appearances.

But he will now be looking for a new club this summer after Tilson decided not to offer the former Charlton Athletic player a new deal.

"I think Osei needs to go and get himself more games next season to be honest," Tilson told southendunited.co.uk.

"His opportunities have been few and far between with us, especially this season.

"He's always worked hard and given his all for us though and we wish him all the very best for the future."

Sankofa follows goalkeeper Kelvin Jack in being released from Roots Hall.

Tilson confirmed earlier this week that he had extended the contract of defender Johnny Herd after activating an option clause.

The Southend manager has also started contract talks with Franck Moussa, Scott Spencer and Damian Scannell.
