Steve Tilson admitted that is was important Southend United ended their last game at Roots Hall for the season with a win.
And that is exactly what the Blues chief got, as second half goals from Harry Crawford and Alan McCormack helped the team come from behind to beat Stockport County 2-1.
Tilson was again full of praise for the fans and believes that it is a result that will set the team in good stead to take into next year, as he looks ahead to working over the summer to see who will be staying and bringing in new personnel.
"It was nice to get a win at home going into next year," Steve told Blues Player.
"It was pleasing to get the result and I thought we deserved it to be honest.
"To go one-nil down in the last home game of the season, we could have folded, but fair play to the lads, because they showed the spirit to get back.
"Our first goal gave us the momentum all of a sudden and then it was a fantastic cross from Pato and a fantastic header from Macca to stick the ball into the corner of the net.
"It was important we got the result today and we had a decent crowd again, who got behind us.
"It is going to be a tough summer and we are going to have to get players in.
"We will have to see who is going and go from there, but we know it is going to be difficult."
