As a young player at Southend United, Harry Crawford admits that it is all about getting minutes on the pitch at this stage of his career.

The 18-year-old striker has made five appearances from the bench for the Blues and was pleased to be getting the experience of league football under his belt.

"I'm proud to be getting on the pitch for Southend," Harry told Blues Player, who will be hoping for more playing time at home to Stockport County on Saturday.

"I'm getting minutes on the pitch and getting to experience league football.

"Coming off the bench is giving me the chance to work my way into the team and it would certainly be nice to make my first start soon.

"That is what I am after, but I am just happy to be getting on the pitch.

"As a young player, it is all about getting minutes on the pitch and I'll just keep looking forward to playing."

Although it has been a tough campaign in more ways than one, which ultimately resulted in relegation to League Two, Crawford is looking to play his part in helping the Blues bounce straight back next year.

He said: "We have to prepare for next season now and hopefully, we can come straight back up.

"There is a great spirit here and the manager has been brilliant.

"He helps young players learn and that is what you need.

"The players have also been great and have made it easy for me.

"It has not been the best season and the stuff off the field hasn't helped, but we have to focus on the pitch and block it out."
