Steve Tilson admitted that Southend United's 2-2 draw at Oldham Athletic, which saw them suffer relegation into League Two, typified their season.
The Blues chief was delighted with the player's performance on the day to see them twice come from a goal behind to earn a 2-2, as well as play out the last 20 minutes with 10 men, but the result itself was not enough.
Southend were hindered by losing three players to hamstring injuries and while Tilson knows next season will be a challenge, he ended by praising the support of the fans.
"We have two games to go this season and we will do the best we can," Steve told Blues Player.
"The draw today typified our season though.
"We've had three players go off with hamstring injuries and the last one after we have made our final substitution.
"Lots has gone wrong for us this season, but fair play to the lads to get the equaliser with 10 men, even though I didn't think we passed the ball as well as we could.
"Barrett's hamstring was tight again and he felt it would go if he stayed on, but both Laurent and Christophe's hamstrings have gone.
"The problems off the pitch have been well documented and haven't helped and it is going to be a challenge to get players in next season.
"The fans were fantastic today though. They realise the problems we have had and I can't praise them enough."
