TILLY PRAISES SECOND HALF FIGHTBACK

Posted on: Tue 13 Apr 2010

Steve Tilson praised Southend United's second half performance against Brentford, even though he was left with the regret of not finding a third goal to turn the 2-2 draw into victory.

Despite a poor start to the game, Tilson challenged his players to be braver after the break and got the response he needed and now is hoping the same energy will be shown in the remaining four games of the season.

"For the first 25 minutes, Brentford dominated proceedings and we were very flat," Steve told Blues Player.

"It looked like we didn't want the ball, but it was totally different in the second half.

"We showed a lot of energy and totally dominated.

"I thought we would win the game and I'm disappointed that we haven't.

"We needed to be braver in the second half and we did that.

"We had a number of chances to win, but Brentford are a good side and have done well this year.

"It is one thing after another with Adam not being able to play, but it doesn't surprise me the way it has gone for us this season.

"He knew his hamstring was tight, but he wanted to give it a go.

"Adam would play through anything, but he felt it in the warm-up and it was too much of a risk.

"I think we needed three points tonight, but all we can do is the best we can in each game and see if that is enough.

"I feel we have to win three of our last four games now, but if we show the same energy and belief as we did in the second half tonight, who knows what can happen."
