HERD TO LAUNCH SOUTHEND SUCCESS

Posted on: Fri 02 Apr 2010

Left-back Johnny Herd wants to launch Southend United on a charge for League One safety.

Southend United face Yeovil Town tomorrow at Roots Hall before making the short journey to Gillingham on Monday.

And Herd hopes his long throw can help the Blues pick up some valuable points.

"We have been working on my throws and hopefully we can get a goal from them," Johnny told Blues Player on Thursday.

"I've always been able to throw the ball a long way and I have no idea why or how.

"It's something I just suddenly discovered I could do while playing Sunday League football.

"I've started using a towel at home games to dry the ball and that allows me to get even more distance which, touch wood, can help the team."

And Herd knows that this weekend will be huge if Blues want to avoid relegation.

"It really is a massive few days for us," said the youngster.

"If we can get the right results then we can get out of the relegation zone and that's certainly what we are aiming for."
