BARRETT: WE'VE TURNED A CORNER

Posted on: Fri 26 Mar 2010

Adam Barrett believes that Southend United have now turned a corner after recording their first win of 2010 against Walsall on Tuesday night.

Getting that long-awaited result though is not something that has surprised Barrett , as he admits the team have not got the points they have deserved from recent games.

Having now got a crucial win on the board, Barrett is confident that the Blues can get the points they need from the remaining nine games to stay up, as he looks ahead to facing his former club Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

"It was a big result for us against Walsall, but it has been on the cards," Adam told Blues Player.

"We have been working hard and knocking on the door, but we got what we deserved against Walsall.

"It went our way in the game where we got an early goal and they had a player sent off, where before it would have gone against us.

"It was a great performance and with nine games remaining, we are confident we can stay up.

"It has been a tough period for the football club and is the toughest that I have known, but the character of the boys here is tremendous.

"Everyone has been grafting and the performances have merited more than we have got.

"We are defending as a team and the lads cannot be faulted for the effort we are putting in.

"I was at Bristol Rovers for two years and was captain there, so I know it is always a difficult place to go to and get a result.

"They get a good backing and are having a good season. I know a few people there, so it will be good to see some familiar faces on Saturday, as long as we get a result.

"There are nine games left and lots of points to play for and we are all confident that we can get out of it."
