Steve Tilson has urged his side to believe they can beat the drop ahead of Saturday's match with Carlisle United.
Tilson's side host host Carlisle United at Roots Hall tomorrow having not won in 11 matches and remain four points from safety.
But the 43-year-old wants to see more fighting spirit from his team as they bid to beat the drop.
"It's going to be a hard task for us from here but we have to keep on believe it's still possible," Steve told Blues Player on Thursday.
"We have to keep on plugging away and give it our all in all the games we have left.
"We haven't won in 11 games so it's going to be hard, especially as I think we need to get to 50 points to stay up but while it's mathematically still possible we will give it everything we've got."
Currently languishing on 33 points Southend will need to begin to put their chances away if they are to avoid relegation to League Two.
Southend have scored on just four occasions in their last seven matches and Tilson knows that is not good enough.
"We have to score more goals and hopefully that can start against Carlisle," he said.
"They have won their last two games so will be full of confidence but we're creating opportunities and just need to start putting them away."
Tilson will be boosted by the return of Alan McCormack from suspension but is still without the services on Jean-Francois Christophe who sits out the third match of a four game ban.
