Striker Scott Vernon was frustrated not to have scored against Exeter City on Saturday.

Blues drew 0-0 with the Grecians at the weekend as both sides failed to take advantage.

And Vernon, who squandered two chances to break the deadlock, was left ruing his misses.

"It was good to get a clean sheet but disappointing not to score at the other end," Vernon told southendunited.co.uk.

"At the moment we are lacking that little bit of belief in front of goal but it was a good defensive display and other than putting the ball in the back of the net we played well.

"I had a couple of chances and I was frustrated not to have put them away.

"The chance I had in the second half the keeper has made a good save. He made himself big and if he had gone down earlier I might have scored.

"But I was more disappointed with the chance in the first half as I felt I should have scored."

The match also saw David Webb assist Steve Tilson for the first time since his arrival.

Webb watched the match from the Directors Box but Vernon confirmed he played his role before the match.

"It was a little bit different with David Webb there," he said. "He had his say before the game, at half-time and back in the changing room after the match

"It is another opinion which is going to help us and hopefully we can make it happen.

"We have a couple of home games now so we have to get maximum points out of them.

"That is going to be hard but we have to go into those games believing we can do it."
