FREEDMAN LEAVES BLUES

Posted on: Tue 02 Mar 2010

Southend United striker Dougie Freedman has cancelled his contract by mutual consent today.

The Blues forward made 41 appearances for Steve Tilson's side during his two-year spell at Roots Hall.

However, his last start came in November 2009 and since then the veteran forward has been restricted to substitute appearances.

35-year-old Freedman's first season started well - scoring four goals in his first four matches.

But injury struck at the end of September 2008 and Freedman missed the following two months of the campaign.

This term 13 of Freedman's 23 appearances came from the substitute's bench as he failed to force his way into Steve Tilson's plans.

Freedman has subsequently been named as Championship side Crystal Palace's new assistant manager this afternoon, with Paul Hart their new boss.
