TILSON: KEEP BAILEY QUIET

Posted on: Fri 26 Feb 2010

Southend United boss Steve Tilson believes the key to beating Charlton Athletic tonight will be stopping Nicky Bailey.

Bailey, who left Roots Hall for Charlton in 2008, is likely to receive a frosty reception from the Blues faithful.

United fans continue to be unhappy about the way the Addicks captain reacted in the build-up to his move.

But Tilson is more concerned about silencing him on the pitch, that worrying about the noise off it.

"He has scored a number of goals at Southend and Charlton so he is one of many to watch," Tilson told southendunited.co.uk.

"If we can keep him quiet like we did at the Valley then that will go a long way helping us get a result."

Tonight also sees the final match of Southend's Friday night football feast this season.

And the Southend manager is urging the crowd to play their part and get behind the team tonight.

"There is always a good atmosphere on a Friday night and we seem to get bigger crowds," he said.

"Hopefully, everyone gets behind the team and that will spur the boys on to a good start.

"Charlton are perhaps out of form at the moment but they are up there for a reason so we won't be taking them lightly."

Tickets for tonight's clash are still on sale at the Blues Box Office. Fans taking advantage of mobile ticketing can save the usual £1.50 booking fee. Call the hotline on 08444 77 00 77.
