Blues boss Steve Tilson is expecting his hardest match of the season tonight at Norwich City.
Southend travel to the Carrow Road home looking for their first win in 2010.
City meanwhile are looking to bounce back from their defeat against Southampton at the weekend.
And that, according to Tilson, means that the clash has all the ingredients to be a difficult encounter.
"They are a very good team and the best I think we have played this season, so this game is as tough as it gets for us," said Tilson.
"But it's a good ground with a good pitch and I'm sure there will be more than 20,000 fans there, so it's a match you look forward to being involved in and hopefully it can spur us on even more."
To return back to Essex with anything to show for their efforts Tilson knows his side must take their chances.
United squandered a hatful of opportunities to capatilise against MK Dons at the weekend.
And the Blues boss wants his side to be ruthless in front of goal tonight.
"We created so many chances and could easily of scored three or four at the weekend," he said.
"So we need to start taking those opportunities in front of goal because that is the only way we are going to get ourselves out of our current position."
Midfielder Sanchez Watt is a doubt for the clash against the Canaries.
The on-loan left winger from Arsenal is still struggling with a head injury.
And he may miss out on this evening's encounter at Carrow Road.
"Sanchez actually picked up a head problem during the game with Tranmere a couple of weeks ago and he's been feeling it ever since," confirmed Steve.
"He certainly hasn't been at 100 per cent for us and he's struggling at the moment, so is definitely a doubt for this game."
