Sanchez Watt may have only been at Southend United for the best part of a day, but the feeling he has already got from the club has made it feel like he has been here for years.

The young winger completed a one-month loan deal from Arsenal, but he admits it is a decision he made himself in arriving at Roots Hall, as he looks to bring on his own game as a player and help the team up the League One table.

"I have only been here for a couple of hours and it feels like I have been here for years," Sanchez told southendunited.co.uk.

"I want to get a lot of minutes under my belt here and get fit.

"I know Scott Malone from the England Under-19s and everyone here has made me feel like a family already and I have only been here for a day.

"The boys are all good and the standard is a lot better than I thought. Southend have some strong players and I think we should do well.

"The players work hard in training and know when to have a laugh and not when to.

"I think it is good to test myself and they are not easy games and the league is tight, so hopefully I can help Southend push up the table.

"At Arsenal, there are a lot of good facilities, but it is good to get out and see what it is really like and prove yourself in a team.

"I've been at Arsenal for years and it is not like being there, where it is comfortable, because there I have to prove myself and work hard.

"I'm a confident person and will fit in anywhere. The boys here want me to do well and do well themselves.

"This is a big step in my career. I chose to do this, I didn't get told to go, I made my own decision and hopefully, it will make me stronger and a better player."

Watt has already taken a look at the upcoming fixtures and while he knows Southend have some tricky encounters to come, he is looking forward to the challenge of fighting for three points each week.

He said: "We have six hard games coming up and I just want to work hard and improve myself.

"We have five games in February, which is a lot, so I think Southend needed to get some players in.

"Hopefully, I will start against Colchester United next Monday night and give a performance and help the team get the three points.

"It is not easy to come here from somewhere else and go into the first team fighting for three points, but they will be good for me.

"I have played in the Arsenal first team and I know how it is, what it means a lot to the fans and because we aren't high in the table and it's tight, getting three points will be like getting nine points."
