MACCA'S HONEST ASSESSMENT

Posted on: Mon 25 Jan 2010

Midfielder Alan McCormack spoke frankly following his sides 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.

McCormack, who headed home the Blues goal at Roots Hall, has seen Southend win just one of their last five games.

And the Irishman insists his side must start to learn from their mistakes.

"We keep going over the same things and making the same mistakes and we just look so vulnerable when teams are attacking us," McCormack told Blues Player after the match.

"We have to learn from what's going wrong, but I think the time has come to be honest and we're very poor defensively at the moment.

"We're just so open and lack the desire to win the ball back once we've lost it. The midfield and strikers have to do more to help the defence as well but it's looking bad on them at the moment but it's because of our shape.

"We need to be more professional because it's costing us and it certainly cost us again against Wycombe."
