Southend United have cancelled the contract of striker Alex Revell by mutual consent today.

Revell, 26, has had his deal at Roots Hall terminated to allow the forward to find a new club in the January transfer window.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion striker spent the last four months on loan at Swindon Town where he made 12 appearances and scored twice.

However, after the Robins opted against signing him - Revell returned to Southend at the start of this month.

Revell made 43 appearances for Steve Tilson's side and scored four goals following a £150,000 move from Brighton in January 2008.

It is believed that Alex is due set to join a League One team shortly.
