2010 - THE YEAR OF THE SCANNELL

Posted on: Wed 06 Jan 2010

Winger Damian Scannell wants 2010 to be a good year for himself and Southend United.

The midfielder made just eight starts during the previous 12-month period as he struggled to nail down a regular role in the Blues side.

But, after starting last time out at Leyton Orient, Scannell is now keen to rack up more appearances — beginning with Saturday's home game with Walsall.

"It was a frustrating year for me because I had a lot of injuries and I didn't get into the side too much," said Scannell, 24.

"I played the whole 90 minutes at Orient in our last game though which was great for me.

"I was blowing a bit but with about 20 minutes left I got a second wind and now I need to make the most of the next chance I get.

"Hopefully the gaffer will choose to start me at the weekend against Walsall but it will hard to get in the team because we have players back in from loan.

"Whatever happens though I'll work hard to do my best for the team again."
