Southend United left-back Johnny Herd faces being out of action for up to a month with a hamstring injury it has been confirmed.

The Blues defender pulled up during United's FA Cup exit at Gillingham on Saturday.

And now he faces four weeks in out of action with the problem.

"It's not as bad as first feared," confirmed the product of Southend's youth system.

"Initially we thought I would be out for a lot longer but the physio believes that it might be three to four weeks now.

"It happened in the first half when I overstretched and I felt my left hamstring go.

"I'm seeing the doctor on Tuesday so I will know for definite how bad it is then."
